Here's how it works.   Individual solar photovoltaic panels, called PV modules, are connected together in a system called an Array.   Small semiconductor cells integrated in the modules collect the sunlight.   The cells transform the sunlight into direct current or DC electricity.   The DC current flows from the Array into an Inverter which converts it into alternating current or AC electricity.   AC current is commonly referred to as household current.   Through a series of electronic switchgear, the energy generated is either consumed or sold back to the Public Utility through an Interconnection Agreement.
