Wind power has met strong public opposition within City Limit Jurisdictions. The main objections are aesthetics and noise. The higher the turbine the more wind, the more wind the more noise the turning blades produce. These systems are excellent in rural areas where towers can be placed in an open space at a minimum height of sixty feet. Generally, the least expensive systems require structural support guy wires and additional installation square footage. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory classifies the Piedmont Triad Area of North Carolina as a marginal wind zone (< 12 mph sustained).
